The newest trend in limousines: electric cars. One Springfield, Missouri-based custom coach builder is planning to build a stretched version of the all-electric Nissan Leaf. The new vehicle will be suited for those that want to arrive in VIP style, but still want to show-off their passion for the environment.

Imperial Coach Builders, a subsidiary of Electric Car Company, Inc., will take the Leaf and stretch it an additional 48 inches, bringing the car’s overall length to 223 inches. It’s expected to house passengers along the sides of the interior.

“This will be the first conversion of this revolutionary vehicle and the first pure electric limousine,” said Electric Car Company president Gary Spaniak.

Interestingly, there’s been no mention of how the additional weight will impact the Leaf’s powertrain or its range. Normally, the Leaf has a range of about 100 miles, but if it weighs substantially more than its stock 3375-lb. curb weight, chances are that it will need some additional juice.
